Pender County Sheriff’s Office alerts people about a new scammer email
PENDER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) –The Pender County Sheriff’s Office has received numerous reports involving a scam email and are advising people to stay safe.
According to PCSO’s Facebook page, scammers would send a PDF file with the person’s address information and what appears to be an image of their residence, same may have been obtained using a program like Google Maps.In the document is a threat to release supposed information located on the person’s phone that may be of negative nature. The scammer then requests a monetary fee to keep quiet. There have been numerous ways they have attempted to get money, one is using a QR code and another, a BitCoin address.
