People are finding ways to stay cool during dangerous high temperatures
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Temperatures in Wilmington hit a high of 96 degrees on Friday, with a heat index of 110 degrees, forcing many people to find creative ways to try and stay cool.
One of the most popular places to go on a hot day is the splashpad at Long Leaf Park in Wilmington.
WWAY found 15 preschool students from Kiddie Cottage Daycare and their teachers there having fun on Friday.
Shyneice Simpson is their teacher. She said they bring the kids to the water pad once a week, since it offers the kids a way to stay active and cool down at the same time.
“Yes, it helps them stay cool, they love it, its fun,” Simpson said. “It keeps them very occupied. It’s a lot of different things for them to do out here and they love it and its close to the park and you have the picnic area so we eat lunch out here and stuff.”
High temperatures are expected going forward, with highs in the upper 90s on Saturday, so make sure to stay hydrated and cool if you’ll be spending time outdoors.
