People react to NCDOT’s work on flooded Edgewater Club Road
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Travel in the Edgewater Club Road area in Porter’s Neck has been a nightmare for people who live in the area. The flooded road is nearly impassable. Wednesday crews closed the road began work to build up the road.
NCDOT spokesman Brian Rick said the work would be completed Wednesday night.
For now people who live in the area cannot use the road. Sarah Beth Howard, a resident in the area, walked about the flooding to get home.
“I was kind of nervous because we couldn’t get out of our neighborhood but now I am glad they are doing the road,” said Howard.
Crews from NCDOT are laying down rocks to raise the road above the current water level so cars can get through.
Bobby Fowler, another resident in the area, said it was a relief seeing the trucks rolling in especially after his van didn’t make it through a few days ago.
“Van stalled out, motor is shot,” said Fowler. “We are really excited that the state has responded pretty fast.”
Many of the people who live in the area are facing similar difficulties and while crews are looking for a quick temporary solution to the flooded road, Fowler said he hopes after this engineers will look at a more permanent one.
“I would of loved to have had it here, yesterday morning or two mornings ago when my van was here and this is a really bad spot,” said Fowler. “What I would like to see is some type of permanent fix for this.”
Some people said they expected more from the DOT as far as giving the public more information prior to closing the road for this work.
Rick said they are not sure when the work will be done and there is still a lot that needs to be done to make the temporary road safe to drive on.
