ROCKY POINT, N.C. (WWAY) — The Cape Fear has four new head football coaches in 2025, and only one of them is outside the Carolina Coast Conference.

Ty Lovette takes over at Heide Trask following three seasons as an assistant at nearby Topsail.

The Titans went winless in 2020-21, but the three years since have all been winning records. Lovette says that made the position very attractive.

“I would be lying if I said that wasn’t a draw to this job,” Lovette said. “They’ve proven they can have success. Now our focus in a lot of what we’ve spent talking about this offseason is how can we take maybe a next step in that. It’s not just ‘hey, we want to win five games a year.’ We want to do more than that and compete beyond that and just be consistent.”

Heide Trask has ten seniors, all of which entered high school at the same time this good stretch began. It is something they hold close to their hearts.

“I think it was very well,” senior wide receiver and defensive back Graham Yates said. “They were the first team ever to make it to the playoffs and host a home playoff game. It’s definitely very cool and something that you’ll remember forever.”

The Titans will be a part of the new East Central Conference, where they hope to become the inaugural champions.

“It’d be great,” senior linebacker Demond Moore said. “Hang it up in our school. Have a good season. Family, winning on opening night on our home field. Going out there and just winning and having a great time.”

The only other area school joining them in the ECC is county rival Pender.
