Plane headed to Cuba makes emergency landing at ILM

There was another emergency landing at Wilmington International Airport Thursday night; this time it was a medical emergency.

An Air Transit flight from Nova Scotia, Canada, was heading for Cuba when a passenger went into shock and passed out. Wilmington was the closest airport on its flight path, so the call went out and emergency crews headed for the tarmac. A doctor onboard stabilized the passenger until the plane could land.

The 40-year-old man was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized.

The Airbus A-310 was back in the air and headed for Cuba again a short time later.
