Planning Commission approves rezoning for new entertainment complex
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Wilmington Planning Commission has brought a proposed entertainment complex one step closer to the start of construction.
The commission unanimously approved the rezoning of more than 6 acres of land along Oleander Drive from a commercial business district to a regional business district, which will allow the construction of the large main facility.
The proposed 40,000+ square-foot complex will include an arcade, a bowling alley, six pickleball courts, and a restaurant and bar.
Project manager David Edmonds said he believes the project will get further approval from the city council.
“Feel confident that we should get it because at the same time, when they look at this, understand the same way everybody talked about it tonight, it’s a great use for the property and it really helps out the city, not just Oleander Drive and that area, but the city in general needs some more entertainment like this,” Edmonds said.
Wilmington City Council will likely vote on the project next month.
If approved, Edmonds said construction could begin as early as this summer and the complex could be completed by spring of next year.
