WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Developers have submitted plans to build a workforce housing community in Wilmington.

Avenue Flats is a proposed apartment complex consisting of 184 apartments spread between three buildings in the 500 block of S. Kerr Avenue. It will also include a playground, clubhouse and picnic shelter.

Wilmington City Council gave the project the green light in September, when they approved the rezoning of more than six and a half acres of land.

Council also approved $3.15 million to provide gap financing for the project.

The apartments are going to be available for people who make between 30% and 80% of the area median income.

The project will now go before the City of Wilmington’s Technical Review Committee.
