‘Plant an Azalea Week’ kicks off at Airlie Gardens
NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Garden Club got their hands dirty at Wilmington’s Airlie Gardens on Thursday.
“Plant An Azalea Week”, celebrates the importance of azaleas in the community, and encourages residents to plant the flower that are a Wilmington trademark.
The club planted 77 azaleas to replace those lost to hurricanes, and are expected to bloom over the next few weeks.
“Our spring bloom is quite spectacular and it just really is wonderful to see how many people are coming out and being in the gardens, especially during the pandemic,” said Janine Powell, Director of Donor Relations for New Hanover County Parks & Gardens.
All donations made out to the New Hanover County’s Parks and Gardens Plant an Azalea Program, help plant azaleas in local parks.
