Police arrest driver after vehicle crashes into building in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington police arrested a man Tuesday after a vehicle crashed into a building and the driver allegedly ran from the scene.

According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded around midday on Tuesday to the 1100 block of Greenfield Street for a crash involving a vehicle that struck a building.

Police say a vehicle crashed into the structure, causing significant damage to the building’s foundation. The driver ran off before officers arrived.

Officers quickly located the suspect nearby and took him into custody following a brief chase.

The driver was identified as 53-year-old David Clarida of Wilmington. He was charged with resist, delay or obstruct public officers, possession of drug paraphernalia, injury to real property, injury to personal property, no operator’s license, hit and run, driving while impaired and failure to appear on a felony.

Clarida is being held without bond at the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
