Police Chief Jim Hock set to retire after a decade of service to Burgaw
BURGAW, NC (WWAY) — Chief of Police Jim Hock spent a large part of Friday cleaning out his desk and saying goodbye to his colleagues.
Hock has spent ten years serving as the town’s chief.
He has been working alongside the new chief, James Rowell, all this month to ease the transition.
As Hock retires, he plans to complete some projects at his house and enjoy some time off.
With the town of Burgaw continuing to grow, Hock says he enjoyed his time as chief.
“I’ve enjoyed my time with the town of Burgaw, the citizens, the community, have been great. The town of Burgaw has been great to me. The department has grown over the 10 years that I’ve been here so it’s a testament to the citizens and the boards dedication to public safety in the town,” Chief Hock said.

Chief Hock has led with integrity, compassion, and a steadfast commitment to keeping our town safe. Under his leadership, the Burgaw Police Department has not only protected and served but has also built strong relationships with staff, residents, and community partners, all while prioritizing community trust and connection. His professionalism and leadership have left a lasting mark. We wish him the very best in his retirement.”
