UPDATE: Police investigating attempted robbery turned stabbing

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are investigating after an attempted armed robbery ends with a man getting stabbed in the neck and head early Wednesday morning.

Around 3:45 a.m., police say they found a stabbing victim in the area behind TJ Maxx on S. College Road. They say the victim, 23, told them a man was trying to rob him and take his wallet when he was stabbed.

Police say the victim had several lacerations in his head and neck area. Officers set up a perimeter to try tracking the suspect with K-9 units, but they say the search turned up nothing.

The suspect is described as a black male who is around 6’3″ and 200 lbs. Police say the victim was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center for his injuries, which were non-life-threatening.
