Police investigating armed robbery, assault

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Investigators with the Wilmington Police Department are investigating an armed robbery last night.

Police said it happened last night before midnight in the 4200-block of Birchwood Drive. They said two men who went to a mini mart on Market Street nearby noticed two men outside near the business. When the men left the store, they were approached by the same men on Birchwood Drive. Police said at least one of the robbers had a handgun and pistol whipped one of the victims before taking a wallet and running away.

The victims described the robbers as two black males, one about 6’2″ with dreadlocks and the other about 5’11” with short hair. Both men are believed to be between 19 and 25 years old.
