Police investigating Wilmington neighborhood break-ins
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington family says security warnings, a dog and locked doors couldn’t stop some daytime intruders. The incident happened in the Echo East neighborhood before the owner came home from work Thursday.
“Opened my front door and noticed there was stuff on the floor,” she said. “I looked straight ahead and the window was busted and there was a brick lying on the floor.”
The owner, who wanted to remain anonymous, says she ran across the street to call police.
“I didn’t know if they were still in or what,” she said.
She also has a security system. It’s not hooked up yet, but she has a backup.
“He’s loving. He’s a house dog, but he will bark just like when y’all drove up,” she said.
But she says that bark didn’t stop them from cracking her back door, leaving a foot print on the front door, and finally — a hole in a window.
“I guess one of them said, ‘Hey here’s a brick,'” she said.
A broken window and now some missing items.
“They just went straight for the medicine,” she said.
And some jewelry.
“Luckily they just took some costume jewelry,” she said.
But that’s not all. She says her neighbor was a victim too.
“We saw his fence was tore down,” she said. “They had gone in and busted his back window. They took a Wii system and $30 in change.”
Breaking and entering that’s now left her a little on edge.
“You never think it was going to happen to you,” she said.
So while the police, investigate she’s getting that security system hooked up.
“It definitely works,” she said. “When the sirens come on, it’s loud.”
A spokeswoman with the Wilmington Police says they’re working to determine if both instances are connected. They have no suspects at this time.
