Police: Man killed fleeing store after check fraud

DALLAS, NC (AP) — Authorities in North Carolina say police officers shot and killed a man who was trying to get away after two accomplices were caught trying to pass fraudulent checks at a grocery store.

Chief Gary Buckner of the Dallas Police Department said while the two suspects in the store were apprehended, the third suspect, who was waiting in a car in the parking lot, drove away.

Buckner said the suspect’s car struck a patrol car on U.S. 321 and one officer opened fire. The chief said the suspect’s car wrecked a second time. Officers pulled the suspect from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Buckner said three officers are on administrative leave as police and the State Bureau of Investigation look into the incident.
