UPDATE: Victim stabs suspect, shot fired during burglary

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Police are investigating after they say a victim stabbed a suspect during an apartment burglary before the suspect fired a shot through the floor.

Wilmington Police say it happened just before 1:30 a.m. Monday at The Reserve at Forest Hills Apartments at 433 Darlington Avenue. That’s where police say the victims told them a man wearing gloves knocked on their door trying to get inside their apartment.

Police say one of the victims grabbed a knife before struggling with the suspect, then stabbing him. They say the burglar was still able to get inside, where he fired a shot through the floor of the apartment.

Officers say though no one was hit by the bullet, it ended up in the downstairs apartment below. That’s when police say the burglar took off from the scene in a vehicle. They say they found a substantial amount of marijuana inside the apartment while investigating.

There’s no word yet on charges against the victim. The burglary suspect is described as a white male, who’s about 6 feet tall, and was wearing all black with a black hoodie at the time of the crime.
