Police say man robbing Raleigh poker game killed
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — A man has been shot and killed in Raleigh
after police say he and another masked intruder entered a home
during a poker game and tried to rob the players.
The News and Observer of Raleigh reported that 28-year-old
Brandon Dwain Shelton was killed and 23-year-old Brian Matthew
Onley was wounded during a struggle at the home late Monday.
Onley was being treated at WakeMed. Police said he would face
charges when he’s released.
The owner of the home, 34-year-old Gregg Maluchnik, was charged
with gambling.
Neighbors said Maluchnik’s house was the scene of regular
Monday- and Wednesday-night gatherings
Maluchnik is a former Duke University baseball player who went
on to play in the major leagues from 1998 to 2003.
