Police: Store clerk punched in face while trying to stop armed robber

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A clerk who tried to stop an armed robbery in Wilmington was threatened and punched in the face. Police say the man responsible is now behind bars.

Police say it happened just before 1 p.m. Monday at the Family Dollar at 1013 Market Street.

43-year-old Terrance Howard allegedly entered the store, grabbed several items, hid them, and tried to walk out.

Police say Howard threatened to shoot the clerk when she tried to intervene, and then yanked her hair and punched her.

Officers arrested Howard last night on Castle Street.

He faces several charges including robbery with a dangerous weapon. He is in jail under a $25,000 secured bond.
