Police Taser man who ran around pulpit during Sunday service
FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Fayetteville police say an agitated man who was running around a pulpit during a church service had to be subdued with a Taser.
A police statement says officers were called about a 52-year-old man communicating threats in a neighborhood near downtown Sunday.
When officers arrived, witnesses said the man had gone into a nearby Free Will Baptist Church and taken a seat among the worshippers. Police say that after officers went to the church, the man began running around the pastor at the pulpit. Officers used a stun gun on him after he refused to obey orders.
Police say suspect Kevin Stephen Whiting was charged with resisting arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant on a kidnapping charge stemming from December. It wasn’t clear if he had a lawyer.
