Polish-inspired pop-up “Babushka’s” opens in Wilmington, serving food with a mission

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY-TV) — A new pop-up restaurant is opening in Wilmington and it benefits those in need of a meal.

“Babushka’s” is a polish-inspired pop-up restaurant next to End of Days Distillery off Castle Street. The restaurant benefits 86 Hunger Now, a Wilmington-based non-profit that prepares and distributes free, high-quality meals each week.

It was created by Chef David Scott and is operated  by him and his volunteers. The organization aims to bridge the gap for the city’s working poor.

“We are here to work, we’re not just selling food, we’re also serving our clients, welcoming our clients,” Scott said. “They are welcome to come to this window at the same time so they can enjoy a nice meal with a restaurant experience.”

Scott said every meal sold will help advance 86 Hunger Now’s mission to help those who fall between the cracks of the traditional safety net.
