Pool water making more people sick
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Pool water is making more people sick across the United States.
According to the Center for Disease Control, 32 Cryptosporidium outbreaks were reported in 2016.
16 outbreaks were reported in 2014.
The parasite spreads when feces gets into pool water. This often happens when people with diarrhea go swimming.
Once infected, a person may experience stomach problems (diarrhea, stomach cramps and vomiting) for weeks.
Because Cryptosporidium is hard to kill, the CDC recommends closing infected pools and treating the water with high level of chlorine.
