Port City Pride holds second annual block party

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple dressed Castle Street Saturday as hundreds celebrated the 2nd Annual Port City Block Party.

Vendors from around the Wilmington community aligned around the street showing off their pride.

Women Organizing For Wilmington won first place for showcasing the best pride at their table. Founder Lynn Shoemaker says she advocates for the rights of LGBTQ+ plus families.

“Pride encompasses everything about our community and right now one of our biggest issues and the things we are looking at is health equity,” says Port City Block Party Chairman Joey Hall. “For you to get a healthy community and the health equity you are needing, you have to go within your community and this is our community.”

Friday night, the Port City Pride youth group held their first masquerade-themed prom for ages 13 to 18.

Sunday night, the Fan Tail Fun Party will be held on the USS North Carolina Battleship to end out the weekend events.
