Porters Neck Village giving back with renovation donations to Western North Carolina
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A local retirement community in Porters Neck is taking a unique approach to its upcoming renovations. Instead of demolishing old units, the community has decided to give back by donating materials that can be repurposed for those still rehabilitating in the western part of the state.
Porters Neck Village is in the process of renovating Buildings A, B, and C, with today’s focus on Building C. Many of the units inside Building C have already been dismantled, and instead of throwing away useful materials, the community is donating items such as countertops, cabinets, appliances, and anything else that can be repurposed for home improvement projects.
Travis and David Price, a father-son duo who have seen the devastation in Western North Carolina firsthand, are playing a key role in this effort. “But when you are in the ditches and you meet these people and they don’t have anything, and we are able to repurpose this and not send it to a landfill, it is absolutely a blessing,” said Travis Price.
The process of loading the materials into a tractor trailer begins tomorrow, with plans to send everything to Marion, North Carolina in the coming weeks.
