WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A two-block section of the Riverwalk near Port City Marina will be closed in phases beginning the week of February 3 as crews work to fix drainage issues, according to the City of Wilmington.

The affected portion runs between Convention Center Drive and Harnett Street, in front of the Pier 33 apartments. Repairs will be conducted one block at a time, with signage and barricades in place to direct pedestrians to use Nutt Street as a detour.

City officials said the concrete section of the Riverwalk has experienced settling, leading to improper drainage. To address the issue, contractor Harp Builders will inject grout beneath the concrete riverwalk to raise it to the correct elevation for proper drainage. Work will begin with the southern section, from Convention Center Drive to Brunswick Street, before moving north.

The $1.1 million project is expected to be completed by early June.
