Presbyterians Kirk the Tartan
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Celebrating a heritage. Presbyterians got together today to celebrate their Scottish roots. It’s called the Kirking of the Tartan – and it happened at First Presbyterian Church on 3rd Street.
A tartan is a flag that represents a family. Today was a chance to reflect on the Scottish heritage of Presbyterians and how that heritage has influenced both the church and the nation as a whole.
“Church members enjoy it and we look forward to it each year and the Scottish society in town participate as well so we get a lot of visitors and community folks as well,” said First Presbyterian Pastor Ernie Thompson.
