Presidential election sparks protests at UNCW

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Across the nation people are protesting the election of Donald Trump as president. One also happened Friday on the UNCW campus.

Students peacefully protested around chancellors walk this morning chanting and displaying signs.

Sophomore Chloe Lindenauer says she wanted to be involved because it’s her right to express her opinions.

She says the goal was to promote love and peace for everyone.

She says although she did not vote for Trump, she does want him to succeed and see the country remain great.

“We wanted to make sure people knew that people on the other side, like Muslims and LGBTQ, that they are still loved and accepted on campus, and that we are all with them and standing with them trying to fight for their rights,” Lindenauer said.

Lindenauer said they did hear some backlash during the protests, but still had a lot of support. She said they plan to have more protests over the next few weeks.
