Preventing golf injuries: Expert tips as golfers return to the course

SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — While this week started out cold, as the temperatures warm up many golfers will be returning to the course.

But if you’re looking to tee off, there are a few things you can do to prevent an injury.

Dr. John Capelle is a Novant Health orthopedic surgeon in Supply. He said injuries are most common among golfers who play several times a week.

According to Capelle, one of the more common injuries he treats is known as “Golfer’s Elbow.”

It’s a condition that causes pain where the tendons of your forearm muscles attach to the bony bump on the inside of your elbow.

He noted there are a number of ways to prevent injury on the greens.

“I think the most important thing is to make sure that you start slow and then work your way up, and to make sure that you have a good coach or a good trainer to teach you proper hand techniques,” Capelle said.

He added it’s important to stretch for a few minutes before hitting the golf course, and to let the club do most of the work.
