Price gouging victims scammed during storm to get paid back

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — North Carolina’s attorney general says a tree-cutting company will pay up for ripping off customers after Hurricane Florence.

The $274,000 settlement with Georgia Tree Company LLC is one of the largest price gouging settlements by the North Carolina Department of Justice.

Attorney General Josh Stein filed a lawsuit in January against the company.

23 victims, including some in Wilmington, Caswell Beach and Onslow County, will get paid back.
