Prisoner charged for spitting on officer while held for assault charges

LELAND, NC (WWAY) — According to an Incident Report posted on the Leland Police Department’s Facebook page, 32-year-old John Ashley Crisp was charged for spitting on a Leland Police Officer while being detained.

Leland officers were assisting the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office with a sexual assault late Saturday night. Crisp was charged with Assault by Strangulation.

According to the Leland Police Department’s report, while Crisp was being detained and being checked out by EMS, he reportedly spit on a Leland Police Officer’s face and arm adding an additional charge of Malicious Conduct by a Prisoner.

Crisp is being held under no bond, according to the Brunswick County Detention Center’s website.
