Proposed bill would put ‘In God We Trust’ and state motto in all NC schools
RALEIGH (WCTI) — A new proposed state law would put “In God We Trust” and the North Carolina state motto in at least one prominent spot in each school in our state.
The bill, which Onslow County Republican Rep. Phil Shepard is one of the primary sponsors, would allow “In God We Trust” and “To Be Rather Than Seem” to be seen in one spot in each school, such as the cafeteria. If passed, it would go into effect for the 2018-19 school year.

“If it’s the national motto, I don’t see it being a problem, you know,” Shepard said by phone Thursday. “It’s on our money as well, so I don’t think that should be an issue either, it may be with some people.”
Several states have similar laws and legal challenges are expected. The state bill also requires schools to schedule the Pledge of Allegiance and make significant national historic documents available.
There is no time table for when the bill will be introduced into the state legislature agenda for a vote.
