Proposed Brunswick County development gets pushback from some residents
SUPPLY, NC (WWAY) — A proposed housing development in Brunswick County that would bring more than 100 new homes to the southern area of the county is facing some opposition.
The proposed 154-home development would be built on 94 acres of land located off of Shell Point Road in Shallotte.
Norris and Bland Engineering held a meeting Wednesday evening to give people living in the area an opportunity to learn more about the project and to ask questions about any concerns they might have.
A portion of the development would be built on wetlands connecting to the Shallotte River.
But the plan is getting pushback from some nearby residents like Terry Alston, who lives along the river.
After attending the meeting, she said she left with even more questions about the project.
“There’s a lot of holes, a lot of unanswered questions, a lot of speculation on the neighborhood’s part on how well thought-out this is and how planned it is,” Alston said. “It’s a lot of, its a lot of property in a very small space.”
Wednesday’s meeting is part of the process to get land use approval.
Brunswick County Commissioners are expected to discuss the project later this fall.
WWAY asked Joseph Bland, one of the engineers who was at the meeting, to comment on the development, but he was unable to speak with us.
