‘Protect Our Rights’ protest held in Downtown Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A protest for equal rights was held in downtown Wilmington Saturday.

The protest, which was held on the steps of Thalian Hall comes after the re-election of President-Elect Donald Trump this week.

Protesters said they are concerned about access to affordable housing, LGBTQ rights, gun control, and the loss of abortion rights during Trump’s second term.

Protester Cheyanne Dossantos said the demonstration is meant to bring awareness to those key issues, even at the local level.

“So, I’m out here protesting today for the reasons of women’s reproductive health, LGBTQ rights, and just general awareness of gun control issues. I feel like it is very necessary after this election to be aware of the issues that lost in said election nationally,” Dossantos said.

Other protesters said they are also concerned about the US’ role in the war in Gaza and political polarization of the country.
