Public asked to avoid Evans Street as Wilmington police investigate shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington Police are currently on the scene of a shooting that left one person critically injured and led to a barricade situation Tuesday afternoon in the 400 block of Evans Street.

Just before 12 p.m., officers responded to the area after receiving a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found a man critically injured. He was transported to the hospital by EMS.

According to WPD, the suspect fled into a nearby residence and barricaded himself inside. The Cape Fear Regional Special Teams Crisis Negotiation Unit is currently on scene working to get the suspect out of the home.

Law enforcement is urging the public to avoid the area as the situation remains active.
