Public hearing held on proposed 30-bed hospital in Columbus County

COLUMBUS COUNTY (WWAY) — A public hearing was held Friday in Whiteville on an application for a new, additional, and central hospital in Columbus County.

The hearing focused on an application from Columbus Regional Healthcare System to develop a new, 30 bed hospital, in Delco, North Carolina called Columbus Regional East.

Many community residents from Columbus County attended to make public comments, and the consensus was the same; this is a must and a need for Columbus County.

Comments were made about the benefits that would come with this hospital including medical advancements, economically managing growth, and basic drive times.

CRHS President and CEO, Jason Beck, read in his opening comment that this application addresses the growing medical need for this addition.

“To document a need in a rapidly growing, but undeserved area,” said Beck.

CRHS sent a statement saying “Columbus Regional Healthcare System is proud to share our excitement and optimism for the upcoming 30-bed Columbus Regional–East Hospital. Today’s Public Hearing reinforced our vision and strengthened our commitment to delivering exceptional, technologically advanced healthcare to a community that has long faced limited access to care. We are prepared and eager to serve residents on the eastern end of the county, as well as the many families moving into the area.”
