Public Reacts to NCAA House Bill 2 demands

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — House Bill 2: a controversial topic in North Carolina.

One year ago, North Carolina law makers approved the bill, restricting transgenders to use toilets that correspond to the sex on their birth certificates.

Now, the NCAA says it will not host sporting events in North Carolina if the bill is not repealed.

Some college sports fans believe the NCAA is stepping out of line.

“I don’t think they should repeal it. Again, I don’t think any sports organization should hold a state hostage,” Shawn Braswell said.

“I believe they need to just stick to their guns and they don’t want guys in girls bathrooms then they need to stick to their guns and vote that way,” Paul Williams said.

According to the Associated Press, HB2 is estimated to cost $3.8 billion over a dozen years. Many concerts, events and businesses boycotting our state, have so far cost more than 80 million dollars since it became law.

Some people think losing the NCAA is simply too much.

“I think North Carolina should consider continuing to repeal it just because all the controversy and with the NCAA, sports is a very important thing in North Carolina, especially college sports,” Priya Balakrishnan said.
