Rain chance delays Leland diverging diamond closure at least a week
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Drivers in Leland won’t have to worry about a major intersection closing this weekend after all.
The NC Department of Transportation had planned to close the diverging diamond interchange where Village Road and River Road meet at US 17/74/76 this weekend, but DOT spokesman Brian Rick says that plan is on hold.
Rick says the work to do final paving and striping on the road is “very weather sensitive.” He says do to a threat of rain in this weekend’s forecast, the work will be delayed until the weekend of Aug. 26.
The DOT opened the diverging diamond earlier this year to help improve the flow of traffic between NC 133 and the US 17/74/76 Causeway. There were also delays on the final work ahead of the opening, but once it got underway, crews finished several hours early.
