Red Cross teams up with UNCW for CAA competition
WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY/Red Cross) — The University of North Carolina at Wilmington and the American Red Cross are holding a blood drive on campus to save lives with some friendly competition.
On Thursday, Sept. 29 from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Trask Coliseum, more than two hundred UNCW students, staff and community members are expected to give blood at the event.
The blood drive is UNCW’s bid in this year’s Colonial Athletic Association Blood Challenge, which was developed by the conference presidents as a fun way to emphasize the critical importance of donating blood. Now in its 15th year, the challenge pits CAA universities and college members in a blood drive battle with the school collecting the most donations being crowned the winner. The event has developed into one of the conference’s most important public service projects.
Donors are strongly encouraged to schedule an appointment for this blood drive by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code “UNCW,” calling 1-800-RED CROSS or downloading the Red Cross Blood Donor App. All presenting donors will receive a free commemorative T-shirt and a coupon for a free haircut at Sport Clips, while supplies last.
