Rep. David Rouzer remains in US House
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Republican David Rouzer had barely begun his second term in the US House of Representatives when we found out last year he’d have a challenger in his race for a third term.
Wilmington physician Kyle Horton announced her run for the 7th District in May 2017.
Since then Horton has kept busy with a seemingly endless series of events to drum up support.
She even raised more money than Rouzer last quarter, but the republican incumbent still had a huge campaign war chest to lean on.
Rouzer, who earlier this year moved from his longtime home in Johnston County to Wilmington, was also able to get out in front of Hurricane Florence response and recovery.
David Fallin was also on the ballot as one of the handful of candidates for the Constitution Party, which North Carolina recognized for the first time this year.
Rouzer pulled ahead of Horton and Fallin in the midterm elections with 55 percent of the votes.
“I’m in the middle of negotiating a Farm Bill right now,” Rouzer said after clinching his victory. “We’ve done a tremendous amount for our veterans and for our military over the last three to four years that I’ve had the opportunity to serve. We’re going to continue those efforts.”
