Report: Loris high school teacher had vodka, open beer in classroom

A minor traffic incident led to the discovery of alcohol in the classroom desk of a teacher at Loris High School, according to police.

There was a “very minor” collision in the parking lot of Loris High School Thursday. While investigating the accident, a student reportedly observed unopened beer cans in one of the vehicles involved. School staff immediately began an inquiry on the vehicle, as it’s a violation of school policy to possess alcohol on campus.

Police say the vehicle was identified as belonging to Jessica McCoy, a science teacher, who was brought to the office for questioning. School administrators asked that McCoy’s things be retrieved from her classroom, at which point, the school resource officer reportedly found an open can of Ice House beer in her desk.

Inside the woman’s purse, police say they found two more unopened cans of Ice House and two Smirnoff mini bottles.
