Report: NC one of the worst states to raise a family

WILMINGTON, N.C. (WWAY) — It seems smiling faces and beautiful places aren’t enough to raise a family.

That’s at least according to a study released Monday.

A survey by finance website WalletHub ranked North Carolina as one of the worst states to raise a family.

The study ranks the Tar Heel 38th in the country when it comes to that. The survey compared all 50 states based on 42 “key indicators” like the unemployment rate, housing affordability, median family salary and child care costs.

North Carolina ranks ahead of states like Oklahoma, Louisiana, West Virginia, Alabama, Mississippi and New Mexico.
