Report: Woman overdoses after taking morphine for ‘flu-like symptoms’

Officers were called to a motel in Myrtle Beach on Monday and found a woman who said she had taken morphine to help with flu-like symptoms, according to a police report.

The call came in on Feb. 5 for a possible cardiac arrest at the Atlantic North Motel.

Responding EMT’s went into the hotel room, found the woman and had to give her four doses of Narcan before she finally became responsive and could be taken to the hospital, the report stated.

A man told police he came out of the bathroom and saw the woman unresponsive on the bed.

He said he moved her to the floor and started doing CPR while also calling 911.

He told officers he was “unaware of any drug usage,” but he said she had used heroin in the past.

While at the hospital, the woman told officers she had been “off of heroin” for about 3 months, but took morphine to help with flu-like symptoms.
