Residents encouraged to join initiative recognizing veterans during Operation Green Light

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — For a third consecutive year, New Hanover County is encouraging community members to take part in Operation Green Light, a national initiative designed to recognize the service and sacrifice of veterans across the country by using green lighting as a symbol of appreciation.
The annual event, which will run November 4-15, encourages residents to place a green light in a window or use a green bulb in an exterior light to show recognition and support for veterans throughout the community. Once again, the exterior of the New Hanover County Health and Human Services building (1650 Greenfield Street) will be lit in green, along with lighting at the Senior Resource Center (2222 Carolina Beach Road).
“Each year, we have seen participation in Operation Green Light steadily grow and it’s truly amazing to see so many homes and businesses displaying their support for those who have served our country,” said Veteran Services Officer Betsy Graham. “This is a great way to show veterans in our community that we’re thankful for their service and grateful for the many talents they bring to make our county such a special place.”
