Residents gather in Topsail Beach to ‘save the South End’

TOPSAIL BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Dozens of residents gathered in Topsail Beach Saturday with one mission — to “save the South End”.

People assembled at the historic assembly building to hear about the ongoing efforts to save the South End.

A non-profit called “Coastal Land Trust” is currently in talks with  the lands private owner to purchase the area, with the goal being to preserve the 149 acres of land.

“Costal Land Trust” has applied for multiple grant to help with the purchase, with many residents in full support of the purchase.

“Coastal Land Trusts” executive director Harrison Marks says that has been a goal of his for a long time.

“Well we have a list of forty projects that we really want to do and this has been on our list for 20 years,” Marks said. “This is just a critical project for us, it’s just one that we hoped to do twenty years ago and we’re just glad to be here”
