Residents learn more about relocation of River Road

NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County residents learned more details Wednesday night about the plan to close a portion of River Road.

The section between Motts Creek and Barnards Creek will be closed from early Sept. until December 23 in order to relocate River Road more inland. This will allow for more development of riverfront areas while redirecting traffic around it.

Some people who use this road daily are worried about their commute time going up.

“You know, taking a perfectly good county road and rerouting it and inconveniencing hundreds of thousands of people there.” said Dan Lentz, who drives on the road every day.

The area will eventually be developed into a 2,700 home site and possibly a place for new businesses to open by the riverfront.
