Restaurants concerned with GenX impacts

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — GenX is not just a concern for homeowners. Many restaurants in the area are also keeping an eye on what’s going on, as the number of people ordering water dries up.  Many customers debate whether to order a glass of water.

“I’ve had a couple people ask about the water a lot of pRestauraeople have decided that they’re not going to drink the water if they find out we have the water that is coming from Cape Fear Utility,” Assistant Manager of the Copper Penny, Katherine McDaniel said.

McDaniel said right now they aren’t looking into reverse osmosis systems. The only known way to filter out GenX.

Restaurants are noticing customers aren’t ordering water like they used to.

“We’re trying not to make too much of a big deal about it, we’re trying to do our part by grabbing the bottle waters for customers instead of the ice or the water we have from Cape Fear Public Utility Authority.” McDaniel said.

Not far down the road, another business is looking into taking another approach.

“We’ve had a lot of customers that are concerned and just drinking beer,” Owner of Tavern Law, Kathyrn Jefferys said.

Jefferys is considering installing a reverse osmosis system.

“We’re just really concerned for the business that if people, ya know the more we learn about this. It’s in our ice, it’s in the soda guns, ya know if you really think about it’s just something were afraid that can affect our business, and also we want our customers to be healthy and feel healthy and still want to go out and grab a cocktail,” Jefferys said.

Both Jefferys and McDaniel said business has not slowed down since reports on GenX.

We also learned that Caprice Bistro in downtown Wilmington is looking into getting a reverse osmosis system installed.
