Retired NC sheriff’s deputy one of two killed in Columbus County crash

COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A retired North Carolina sheriff’s deputy was one of two people killed in a Columbus County crash Wednesday afternoon.
The wreck took place on Rough and Ready Road at the intersection of Old Stake Road near Chadbourn.
An SUV and tractor trailer were involved.
The Columbus County Sheriff’s Office says the SUV failed to stop at the intersection and struck the side of the tractor trailer.
The tractor trailer overturned onto the driver’s side and ended up in a ditch.
Both people in the SUV were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver, Alisha Rene Garner, and passenger, John Davie Garner, were the two killed.
The tractor trailer driver was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital with injuries.
Charges will not be made in this crash, since SUV driver was at fault and died in collision.
