Ribbon cutting held for new building for Wilmington Health Access for Teens

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new location in Wilmington will offer teens expanded health and mental healthcare services.

Wilmington Health Access for Teens, known as the WHAT program, held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for their new building Friday afternoon on Medical Center Drive.

The WHAT Program is run by Coastal Horizons.

It’s more than twice the size of the old location.

They offer a range of therapy services for people between the ages of 6 and 24.

Amanda Ronne is the director of the WHAT program.

She said it was rewarding to be able to help more teens, while also having support from the community.

“It just means so much because we feel, you know, that there is such a need and we don’t want anyone to go without services,” Ronne said. “It was just incredibly emotional. We do this hard work every single day and just to have that amount of support is just amazing.”

The WHAT program also has wellness centers in all 4 New Hanover County high schools, which allows students to get help more conveniently.
