River cruise explores local history of TV and book series ‘Outlander’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A new river cruise is teaching history inspired by the TV and book series “Outlander.”

The tour is hosted in collaboration with Wilmington Water Tours and the Burgwin Wright House.

The cruise tour takes riders up the Cape Fear River, exploring the rich history the basin has to offer, and how it plays into the series.

Hunter Ingram is the assistant museum director of the Burgwin Wright House and narrates the tour.

Ingram is also the former host of the popular history podcast called “Cape Fear Unearthed.”

He noted although Wilmington is often celebrated for its Civil War history, it also played an important role during the Revolutionary War.

“We were just as important in the American Revolution,” he said. “We were a port at the same time, so it was important to both sides of the war. We had the battle of Moore’s Creek Bridge just north of us, which was a pivotal battle.”

Ingram is continuing his affinity for history podcasts with “Burgwin Wright Presents: Outlander in the Cape Fear,” which is also based on the series.

Tour dates for the river cruise include May 12 and June 9, with tickets available for $35.
