Riverfront Farmers Market reopens, only half the vendors come out

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Riverfront Farmers Market is up and running again in downtown Wilmington. But not everyone could make it back.

Robert Majkowski sells home grown orchids at the Riverfront Farmers Market every week. But Majkowksi lost his greenhouse during Hurricane Florence, he says he is lucky to even be here this week.

BJ Ryan is the market manager and she says for the vendors here, this market is their livelihood.

Ryan says there are usually thirty vendors at the market but this weekend only fourteen could make it and only one was selling produce.

Ryan expects most produce and seafood vendors to be out for the rest of the season.

Vendors like Majkowski are channeling their energy into bringing some happiness to customers.

“Giving or selling plants to them is kind of nice because some of them
lost mostly all of their orchids as well. So we’re going to rebuild
people’s collections and keep going on,” Majkowski said.

He says he will keep bringing as many plants as he can every week to put a smile on people’s faces.
