WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The City of Wilmington announced road closures set to take place the first full week of the new year.

Starting Monday, January 5th, work will resume on the Kenan Fountain restoration project at the intersection of Market Street and Fifth Avenue. To allow crews to work safely, traffic control barriers will be reinstalled around the fountain.

The project is set to be completed by the end of February according to the city.

Starting Tuesday, January 6th, a section of Wrightsville Avenue between Audubon Boulevard and 43rd Street will be closed, and detours will be in place.

The closure will start at 9 in the morning and continue until 3 in the afternoon. The city says this is for the safe pruning of mature live oaks as part of the ongoing sidewalk project.

Work is expected to last one day but could resume on Wednesday if needed.
