Robeson County ends corporal punishment policy

Robeson County will end corporal punishment. The board voted Tuesday night to abolish the policy.

Before, parents had the choice to opt in or out of allowing the teacher to paddle their child.

Wendy Moore’s grandchildren were opted in and she didn’t want to see the policy go.

“We felt that it was fine. It was fair to both sides because it offered choice,” Moore said.

In a six to five vote, the board decided to end the corporal punishment policy.

The board chair broke the tie with a vote to end the policy.
